Blackwell, Oklahoma. Reed Timmer is an “extreme storm-chaser.” Timmer was born in Grand Rapids Michigan. He studied meteorology in Oklahoma and received his Ph. D. in Oklahoma. Timmer co-founded VORTEX (Verification of the Origins of Rotation in Tornadoes Experiment) circa 2003. Timmer was also on the Discovery Channel’s “Storm Chasers” which aired in 2007 and received a great response from a young audience propelling him into stardom as a celebrity Meteorologist.
TFINews24.com was allowed to photograph the TIV (TORNADO INTERCEPT VEHICLE) while Timmer answered questions from his fans. Oklahoma has deemed Timmer a hero for many in helping obtain information on how tornados act and respond to the different weather patterns in the central plains. Timmer has set the bar for other avid extreme meteorologists and has contributed to helping make meteorology an inspiration for many. Timmer has modified one of the most popular storm-chasing vehicles ever known for gathering data on tornadoes. Timmer has installed various weather instruments on his project to allow for better data retrieval and has helped the field of meteorology immensely.
Timmer is also a photographer obtaining many of the best pictures ever taken of tornados. Timmer’s work has been featured in other news outlets and publications in the U.S. Timmer loves educating others so they may have a passion for meteorology. Timmer’s interest does not stop at tornados he has been involved in chasing hurricanes too.
Timmer followed the storm cells around Blackwell today and watched for severe weather. Timmer then proceeded to leave to chase a storm.
